Markup, margin and break-even calculators

Price your items from cost, convert between markup and margin, and see how many sales cover your fixed costs.

Markup and margin in one line

Markup is profit divided by cost. Margin is profit divided by the selling price. An item that costs $20 and sells for $30 has a 50% markup and a 33.3% margin.

margin = markup ÷ (1 + markup)  ·  markup = margin ÷ (1 − margin)

Common questions

Should I price with markup or margin?

Either works if you use it consistently. Margin is easier to compare with fees, because platform fees are also a share of the selling price: a 13.6% eBay fee comes straight off your margin.
